Walking through Bournemouth town centre, I noticed this abandoned building. Boarded up and ready for demolition, St Peter’s Hall was originally built in 1907 and was used as a nightclub in previous years. It now stands boarded up since late 2013.
I have walked past this building many times in the past, but never noticed it. How? The building only caught my attention when I saw the two balcony doors at the top catch the sunlight as they open and close in the breeze. Most of the windows have been smashed or removed and even though we are unable to go inside, if you stand back enough, you can see some graffiti, pigeons flying and nesting freely and a large open space, full of light in the middle of the day. I am eager to explore the interior – imagine the photos!
Abandoned buildings fascinate me; something that was once standing proud, being used as an entertainment venue, bringing happiness to the town centre; now stands as an empty shell. The empty space where the windows would of lived and nothing left but memories. St Peter’s Hall will eventually, if not already, be forgotten about, soon to be destroyed and replaced for something new and better.
