Ojo Rojo, located in the Triangle in Bournemouth opened in March.
Ojo Rojo (pronounced ‘Ock-o Rock-o’) translated to read ‘Red Eye’.
On the menu, it begins to explain that … this popular Mexican phrase is used to allude to the effects of consuming great spicy food, and/or the struggle of the morning after the night before! It describes someone having ‘all the fun’ or ‘living life to the fullest’.
Stop existing, start living. Feed your spirit.
I had been wanting to visit since reading ‘inspired by Mexican street food, refined and combined with flavours and influences from around the world’ on their website. A big lover of Mexican food, how did it take me three months to eat here?!
Walking in, the decor was beautiful. Very earthy and rough around the edges. Loved the filament light bulbs – nice touch.
Arriving for a quiet weekday lunch, we sat down and started checking the menu, and after a few minutes a waitress came to take our drinks order.
We ordered one Agua De Jamaica, which was Hibiscus flower cordial served with a squeeze of lime and one Scrambler & Trailer, which had watermelon, strawberries, lime and fresh chilli. Beautiful drinks; would definitely recommend Agua De Jamaica – so refreshing!
As vegetarians, our options were slightly limited, but we shared sweet potato fries (which was covered in chipotle mayo), Quinoa Delight Tacos (which came in a set of three) and Rojo Quesadilla (which has the option to remove the chorizo for a vegetarian option).
You can check out their menu here.
Ojo Rojo also have their own range of sauces which are available to buy. Made using the local Wiltshire Chilli Farm, the sauces come in three flavours;
Overall, I thought the food was delicious, all nicely balanced for a lunchtime treat.
I’m in love with the earthy decor and think it suits the restaurant perfectly, giving a relaxed vibe with a sophisticated touch.
Would I revisit? Absolutely!
