Stoltzekleiven to Fløyen Hike – Bergen, Norway

After meeting some wonderful travel friends on Saturday evening (Evelyn and Felix), we decided to tag along on their hike the following day. Stoltzekleiven is located in the city centre of Bergen, Norway.

The morning started out hungover, we were in urgent need of breakfast and coffee. We headed across town to Godt Brød, had one of the best sandwiches I have ever had before relaxing in a beautiful nearby park. We decided to head off on the hike around 2:30 in the afternoon, enough time for a quick nap to recover from the evening before.

Then we were off, it was a 15 minute walk from our Airbnb to the bottom of the mountain and we began the first part of the hike. Just over 900 steps of mainly steep stone stairs.

It took us just over half an hour to reach the top as we did have multiple water breaks, because you know, hiking on a hungover isn’t easy.

The higher we climbed, the more breath-taking the view became and when you reach the top, the view is unforgettable.

From the top, after admiring the views and getting all of the pictures, we continued straight ahead  and followed the path for a couple of minutes until we came to a lake. We skimmed rocks across the calm water and took in the Norwegian Mountain views before turning right and followed the signs to Fløyen.

Fløyen is the more popular viewpoint in Bergen, with access being easier for everyone with the funicular. I definitely recommend taking the journey from Stoltzekleiven to Fløyen, in fact; I would do it every time I visit Bergen. You get to see the beauty of Bergen, and escape the tourist attraction.

Make sure you wear sensible shoes/trainers, take water and some food for energy and don’t forget to admire Bergen every step of the way!
