As we left work at five on Friday afternoon, we headed to a beautiful cottage, hired through Bookham Court.
We stayed in a luxury barn conversion, which slept 8 people very comfortably. It was a weekend we all needed. No phone signal, no plans, hardly any residents. Just the beautiful countryside, good food, good company and many bottles of prosecco.
We spent the Friday night eating homemade chilli, drinking prosecco and and playing Cards Against Humanity. At 4am we called it a night and woke up on Saturday feeling surprisingly well. Some breakfast and fresh air was definitely needed though.
Saturday day time took us to Cerne Abbas, a quick visit to the Cerne Abbas Giant, which is disappointing, overgrown and hardly visible but we went on with a walk through Cerne Abbas village, we stopped off for some lunch and wandered through the streets, admiring the Old English architecture, the Abbey and church – The village is tiny but very cute and well taken care of, you can clearly see the pride which goes into this village.
The night followed with more great food, more great company, plenty of prosecco, a game of Articulate and a drunken game of charades. I don’t think I’ve laughed so hard in ages! Another 4am finish but this time I woke feeling a bit fragile. When you’re in the country, hungover, what do you do? Go for a country walk!
On our walk, we explored the surrounding area to our cottage. Coming across a cow farm and spending time trying to get their attention for a photo!
We left around 2:30pm on Sunday, all refreshed and relaxed.
What a wonderful weekend!
